Guardian´s House

Machu Picchu, Perú

The Guardian’s House is located in the highest part of the city of Machu Picchu above the agricultural sector. Its purpose was to control the entrance to the Inca city and supervise the entire agricultural and urban area. From this strategic location you can enjoy a panoramic view of the entire city and the entrance to the Inca Trail.

This building consists of three walls. On the central wall there are three large windows, which allow you to easily see the entrance to the city from the Inca Trail and the drawbridge, the only communication routes with the outside world. You can also see how the Incas roofed their houses, using a system of crossed beams and a braid of ichu.

The Guardian’s House is one of the first attractions on the upper tourist circuit around Machu Picchu. From its position it is one of the best places for panoramic views of Machu Picchu, Huayna Picchu and the surrounding mountains. Compared to other buildings within the citadel, La Casa del Guardian is not an overly impressive structure, but due to the photographic opportunities the building offers, it is a must-see for anyone visiting Machu Picchu.
